The Modern Long Beach Wedding

Wedding at The Modern Long Beach | Cole & Taylr

Cole & Taylr’s wedding last year really kicked off my wedding season in the most wonderful way. I walked into their wedding at the Modern in Long Beach knowing that they were the most amazing couple, the kind you consider instant friends, but having no idea how incredible this day would be. From start to finish their wedding was filled with the most personal touches, inviting their guests into their world like a big hug. Small corgis thoughtfully placed throughout in tribute to their dog Butters, and lots of waterski and boating references that reflected on their favorite pastime together as well as their engagement story. After an incredibly beautiful ceremony, we escaped down to the airplane tarmac to take some truly breathtaking couples photos at sunset. They even brought their 1969 Dodge Charger to include in the photos. I can’t wait to share more photos from Cole & Taylr’s wedding at the Modern. Read on to see more!…

How They Met

We met through the dating app Hinge! We can't remember who like who first, but I remember seeing a photo of the motor in Cole's boat and knew we'd get along. We decided to meet for margaritas at the beach for sunset and I remember being SO nervous. I was on the phone with my mom when Cole pulled up next to me and accidentally hung up mid sentence! We continued hanging out back at Cole's house that night and his roommate actually got into a fist fight with her friend. Cole had to break it up and I was so worried it had ruined the night. Thankfully we made plans for the next day and have been inseparable ever since!

The Proposal

We were meeting up with a few of our friends in Havasu Springs to go boating in February and I remember it was 39 degrees when we launched our boat, so we were bundled up! Cole was adamant about waiting for our friends boat to catch up, but their hatch was up and they were working on the motor. I didn't think anything of it and they were to able to fix the boat and we all took off. Before we docked, Cole said we should take a photo on the bow of the boat and said to take off some layers. Naturally, I was not about to freeze and it took a few minutes of convincing to get me up there. Our friend took the photo from their boat and to my complete surprise Cole said "I have a question" and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Our corgi Butters even got to be part of the proposal and joined us for photos on the boat.

The Wedding Venue

We wanted to find a wedding venue that was unexpected. When you pull up to the Modern in Long Beach, you really can't tell it's a wedding venue. When you step off the elevator the ceremony and reception space really leaves you speechless. It was so cool to watch the planes taking off and landing on the tarmac while we toured the venue. When we found out we could bring our '69 Charger out on the tarmac, we were sold! We loved having our wedding at the Modern Long Beach!

The Inspiration behind your Wedding

I had been obsessed with these mirrored pillars our florist had since day one and couldn't stop thinking about how amazing they would look at golden hour reflecting candle light. From there we tried to tie in a modern romantic vibe with pops of blush, black, and gold against the all white wedding venue (The Modern in Long Beach). We also wanted to include small, personal details that helped our guests feel even more connected to us. Boating has always been a huge part of our lives, so we wanted to use previous boats we've owned in place of table numbers. It was so fun to see some of our family friend's reactions to seeing their boat on the table marker! We also did fun fact napkins, corgi stir sticks, and a waterski in place of a traditional guest book.
