Branding Photos & Content Creation with OC Calligrapher Pirouette Paper Company

Orange County Branding Session

Pirouette Paper Company has one of those brands that just catches your eye because it’s darling in every way and you just want to be a part of it, someway, somehow. Well, I can’t tell you how thrilled I was when the owner, Kaylyn, reached out about having me take her branding photos! She is an extremely talented calligrapher that designs stationery and paper goods.

Branding Sessions have the power to capture your creative process. We wanted to capture some of the design process and show the care and attention that goes into each piece she designs. You can really see how hard she has worked to hone her craft. Each one of her products is handcrafted and gets her individualized attention. These branding photos capture that in a way that she can share with clients. We also made sure to capture her two office assistants (dogs), Olive and Grayson, because when you work from home, every day is bring your pet to work day! They sure are cute!…

Tell me a little about your business and what you do…

My business was born out of a love for making cards for everyone I knew ever since I was a little kid and having those cards put a smile on people’s faces. I took a calligraphy class for fun while on medical leave from my job at Disneyland and I absolutely fell in love with it. In fact, I called my mom a couple of days after the class and said “this is what I want to do”. I started out doing some styled shoots which turned into some small calligraphy jobs which turned into bigger calligraphy jobs and then into full stationery design. My passion lies in creating beautiful designs that incorporate a couple’s personality in their wedding details. I believe that high-quality design and paper goods leave a lasting impact on guests at a wedding and can be treasured keepsakes. Besides, they are just so beautiful! I love all of my wedding clients, as well as my logo and branding clients. Pretty much anything that involves pretty writing and/or paper goods, I got you covered!

How would you describe your branding? What makes your business stand out from the competition?

My branding needs to be pretty versatile as I work with a lot of different styles (such as fine art and modern designs). I have my signature style, but I also love adding some flair and cheekiness in some projects and high-end elegance in others. I try to find a good mix of both while still keeping in mind my own personality as my business is currently just me. I love getting dressed up and going out, but I am most comfortable in my comfy sweatshirt and leggings cuddled up next to my pups, so I wanted to have both sides of my personality represented in my branding photos! My business stands out from the competition because I have so much heart that goes into each and every piece I design. I absolutely love what I do and am so lucky to do that; I try to have that show in all of my work. I also offer a multitude of design styles whereas most of my competitors just have one style that they stick to.

Why did you decide to do a branding session?

I chose to do a branding session with you because 1. You’re the best and 2. I wanted images that represented all aspects of my business. Sometimes it’s having a pretty dress on and attending industry events, but it’s mostly me, my pups, my computer, and production in my office so I was so happy we were able to capture all of those elements! I also wanted to do a branding session to get updated photos, some photos of me working and some headshots to spruce up my website (which I still haven’t done FML) to show anyone who comes to my site the most updated version of me and my brand.

What kinds of images were you hoping to achieve through this branding session? How do you plan to use the content?

I was hoping to get some casual lifestyle photos, nice headshots, some cute behind the scenes in the office with my dogs and of course some of me working! I plan on sprinkling the content in my social media for some Friday Introductions, using them on my website to showcase my work and in my invitation design packets that I send to clients and planners.

What was your favorite part of your branding session?

Hanging out with you, duh!! Getting yelled at by a homeless man and laughing at my dog, Olive, getting scared of the sound of your camera shutter. Haha! But really, my favorite thing was truly hanging out with you! Adventuring into the field and exploring new areas, sippin’ some wine and non-stop laughs with you! Seriously so fun and I want to do it again soon haha!

Would you recommend a branding session for other small businesses?

OF COURSE! I think they are a great way to professionally show your personality, your brand and a little peek into your “real life” as a person. It’s a great thing for companies with multiple employees as well to get team photos so they can keep some consistency in their website “meet the team” section. Branding sessions can help any business by adding professional images!
